Piano keyboard
Home Music Weddings Biography Gallery

Growing up, there was always a piano within arm's length. My earliest musical memory would be trying to reproduce on the keyboard a mandolin piece I had heard in school assembly.

Piano lessons from the age of nine to sixteen gave me a solid foundation on which to build my songs, but I struggled with the sight-reading. To this day I cannot join the dots, but, for me, music has always been a wonderful mystery, emotional and intuitive, rather than intellectual. Over the years, I have learned so much more from watching and listening to other musicians, many of them colleagues.

The usual progression follows: school band, university band, trying to get a deal, going our separate ways. I appeared on 'Surprise Surprise', playing and singing in a variety of exotic locations, but, despite this, have continued to make a living in London as a pianist and vocalist, performing other people's songs. For the last ten years I have been fortunate to work as resident Musical Director at the Friern Manor Country House Hotel, near Brentwood in Essex.

I have been writing songs since the age of fifteen. My latest album, 'Songs of Innocence and Experience', comprises thirteen of the best that I have composed in the last twenty-five years. Many of the songs are written for or inspired by people close to my heart.

My influences are, largely, singer-songwriter musicians like Kate Bush, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Elton John and Michael Franks. I also love the singing and piano playing of  the late, great Nat 'King' Cole.
